A ProhibitedSteps order is an order under section 8 of the Children Act 1989 saying that a person should not behave in a particular way in respect of a child.

 

Some common examples are orders saying that a person - usually one of the parents - should not

 

• take the child away from the other parent;
• bring the child into contact with another person (for example, the new partner);
• change the name by which the child is known;
• arrange for the child to have medical treatment.
